Arenanet just confirmed that the long awaited GuildWars 2 will indeed be releasing this year, 2012.
What's more interesting though, is that they stated they'll be offering beta tests of increasingly bigger sizes quite soon... I quote the Arenanet president Mike O'Brien:

There's been alot of buzz recently with a beta announcement of Guildwars 2 seemingly right around the corner, NCsoft has confirmed to us that they are planning a press conference held at GamesCom in just a few weeks time.

The guys over at gamespot have posted an interview with Jon Peters, a gameplay designer over at Arenanet. In this twenty minute demo we can see all the splendors of being underwater. There are cities underwater with quests, vendors and so on, as well as enemies, ofcourse. Underwater you have different skills than on land, since it wouldn't make sense to fight with a bow underwater, for example.

A few weeks ago Arenanet launched an online contest where fans of the series would get a chance to become a Guild wars 2 Ambassador. Fans would have to submit their best home-made promotional videos and tell why people should play Guild Wars 2 when it launches next year.

ArenaNet has received over 500 submissions resulting in a total of more than 8 hours in terms of actual footage. ArenaNet told us "We were very impressed by the remarkable amount of passion in submissions from all over the world".

It has been a few weeks without Guildwars 2 related news but as of late Arenanet has been posting more and more videos. One of the most interesting videos thus far is a video that shows off the city of Lion's Arch. In the original Guildwars Lion's Arch is the main city of the Kingdom of Kryta and the primary trading port of the continent of Tyria. Player's would come about here from all factions and expansion packs to trade/sell items that they have found on their quests.

The biggest difference is the use of higher poly's and it really does show. The city seems twice as big and way more dynamic. We see tropical trees and plants, huge skyscraper-like buildings and even children running around.

Also worth mentioning is that it seems that the Charr have made it to Lion's Arch as well. Aside from it being way larger we also see new effects that are way more dynamic and really help to set out the tone of the entire city.
